MULHOUSE : “SPACE DESIGN AND CONCEPT FURNITURE FOR A MODERN, RESOLUTELY FUNCTIONAL RESULT”

Breathe warmth and comfort into a vast space: New Challenge.

Here we are in Alsace in the town of 100 chimneys, right in the historic town centre in a jointly owned block. What could we suggest for such a large volume?  

The motto for our guidelines was SIMPLICITY, to ensure that we allowed the space to express itself, dividing it up well to ensure that it was both functional and well-balanced. 

We began by rethinking the layout of the rooms in order to get the best from existing features: fireplace, bay windows...

As you enter the apartment you discover a real living tableau - the kitchen is the vital heart of this home, worked with materials such as stainless steel and tinted glass. The elements in contrasting shine soften with the matt corianⓇ used in the kitchen, worked in pure, contemporary style, but which has some big surprises in store for us, such as a pantry, TV unit, hidden dressing room, etc. 

In such a spectacular volume, visual treatment has to be discreet, so we worked on textures. FOREST GREEN natural stone, imported from Italy highlights relief, through the magic of its nerving, and gives strength to the soul of this apartment with its many corners. The play on contrasts and shapes of the different items of furniture combines different composites and textures. Units are built into walls, hiding technical eyesores. Lots of off-beat details create surprises in every room: interactive control system, sound proofing and home automation all find their place. 

Like a Paris museum, the apartment is a place to meet with icons of design: LC4 by le Corbusier, wallpaper by Zaha Did, seating by Steiner, light fittings by ARTEMIDE, FLOS and other design brands, with designer textiles also used together to great effect. 

To give yet more scale to all these elements, smaller objects are placed alongside them to add character and accentuate the excessive scale and volumes. 

Sharing the space perfectly, a leather skin on the floor enhances the parquet flooring, ebony and macassar correspond and find perfect symbiosis with Murano crystal ornaments and grained or smooth leather textures, as well as supple materials decorated with finely finished embroideries.
